My association with Dr. K. B. Grant spanned over four decades — forty-one enriching years of learning, mentorship, and guidance at Arbornthik Clinic. To me, he was far more than a teacher or superior; he was a mentor, a well-wisher, and at times, a guardian who shaped both my professional and personal path.

Long before I joined him, Dr. Grant had been my father’s physician and cardiologist back in the 1960s. My father often said, “There can never be another doctor like Dr. Grant — not just in skill, but in spirit.” And truly, he was right. Dr. Grant was an embodiment of compassion and humility — honest in his opinions, receptive to every suggestion, and always willing to engage in open dialogue, whether about medicine or life itself.

When he learned of the challenges I faced during my early years in private practice, he would personally reach out, offering thoughtful advice on how to move forward. His only expectations from those around him were loyalty, sincerity, hard work, and dedication to the institution he built with such devotion. I still remember his words:
“If you want your nursing home to grow and succeed, surround yourself with people who will never abandon you — no matter the circumstance.”
Many of us lived by that principle, striving to uphold his trust and belief in us.

It is said that a great teacher — a true guru — is born once in a century. For me, that guru was Dr. K. B. Grant, the guiding light of 20th-century medicine. He didn’t just teach us the science of healing; he taught us ethics, humility, and the art of being human. From him, we learned discipline, punctuality, integrity, and compassion — to always remain truthful to our patients and to ourselves.

Even in his later years, he remained intellectually curious — often seen immersed in the latest medical journals, determined to stay at the forefront of evolving medicine. Yet, as time unfolded, his once tireless body began to falter, though his mind remained sharp and resolute. He was aware of his physical decline and, at times, would quietly express the pain of witnessing it.

Then, on that still night of January 3rd, 2011, the angels came — gently calling upon a noble soul who had spent his life healing others. And as he departed, he left behind not just a hospital or a legacy, but a message — one that continues to inspire every heart he once touched.
